Fall Fishing on Lake Joe Pool

Well fall is almost here and Labor Day crowds are behind us. I'm ready to catch some white bass, crappie and catfish!

  1. Went out scouting with Jack Spirko. Found fish under north bridge and under sout bridge. 5 PM was not good for white bass but we had a NE wind and there were storms moving in. Got rained out and headed for the ramp.

We saw whites schooling in the shade of the bridge. Ive caught them there hundreds of times but never seen them topwater in the shade of the bridge.

Jack is a former client who became a good friend. I am heading out with Bryant Dowden Saturday if weather permits.

  2. Fished today in a drizzle. Started at 7:30 and fished bridge pilings with jigs and minnows. Moved to standing timber at 9 then back to the bridge. Caught 25 crappie and cleaned 14 for the table.

  3. Fished with Bryant Dowden Tuesday night. Plenty of shad at the bridge, found fish on homemade crappie condo. Cleaned a mess of crappie.

  4. Fished Saturday morning by myself. Found fish at Bridge and condo again. Left them biting to try some timber and some shallow water fishing. Bite slowed by 11. Cleaned enough for a great lunch with some hush puppies.

White bass? Not to be found with the gates open like they are. Water murky with a 76 degree surface temp.

  5. Woke up early and hit the lake at 5:30. Dropped the underwater lights in and caught two crappie real quick then nothing. I moved to another place that I like to fish and picked up a couple more. The wind switched to the South for the first time in weeks about day break. I caught several more on jigs, jigs tipped with minnows and the larger fish, on hand tied jigs including my daughters first jig. Left at 8:30 with 14 crappie and one sandy. Came home and cleaned them and was unloaded by 9:30.
